Creating an educational institution
Creating an educational institution
Establishing the evolving partnership between the University of Lancashire and the WRL as they create an educational institution in West Cumberland centred at the University of Lancashire’s Westlakes campus.
Westlakes Research Limited (WRL) is a public benefit educational charity established in 1992. Since 2008 it has been a member of the University of Lancashire family of organisations, which has given WRL access to the vast range and depth of academic work at the University of Lancashire as our partner, but also, as a research institute based uniquely in West Cumberland, this collaboration provides the university with the opportunity to undertake research in a clearly-bounded location of great social and economic variety which is then portable and scalable to other locations and contexts.

The Research Areas
Research will apply scholarship to create ‘additionality’ in the form of contributions towards professional practice, policy design and implementation relevant to the political economy of Cumberland and re-scalable to wider national and international contexts in each of four research areas.
Working with communities to identify effective and sustainable means of increasing community capital
‘Learning from the Contemporary: Emergent Cultural Practice and Policy Development’
Focusing on harnessing the health and wellbeing benefits of green and blue space
Working with a range of organisations in public and private sectors to develop their measurable value profiles through case studies.
